Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium in Zoo Negara

One of the interesting places in Zoo Negara was the Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium. Here, the aquarium is based on ecological freshwater creatures highlighting the Malaysian River and Wetlands. There are various species of aquatic flora and fauna. There's also endangered species that are being kept here and that includes rare species of fish.

This is how the entrance looks like.

A group of fish came to greet us.

Follow by a medium sized Arowana. Arowana's originates from Southeast Asia, where they live in slow moving waters, river and streams. Arowana's have 5 horizontal rows of large distinct scales on their bodies. Different Arowana's have different colour scales, with the most intense and appealing contrasts fetching the highest prices. They can grow up to 30 inches with proper care and can live up to 15 years.

Here's another freshwater fish species.

This is a catfish species. Catfish almost exists in every continent except cold places such as the Antarctica. The Catfish are well known for their prominent barbells. The barbells are tactile organs located close to the mouth, that is similar to cat whiskers. Similarly to cat, the barbells are used to heighten the animals awareness of its surroundings. The barbells are equipped with taste buds and the catfish use those barbells when catching fish in dark and cloudy waters.

This is a Toman species.

The Toman species is a native of Asia and Africa. Toman are also called snakehead fish, in East Asia it's common name is Toman. This freshwater fish can be found in ponds, streams and wetlands. They can grow as long as the size of a man's arm depending on their age. Take note that this type of fish is a strong predator type so beware if you want to place it in a tank with other types of fishes.

The exhibits have been landscaped to fit the natural condition in the wild, this is to show us how these aquatic flora and fauna live their lives in their natural environment.

Red Cherry Shrimps

Red Cherry Shrimps

Red Cherry Shrimps

Today we will be introducing a pet that are relatively special, thus the star of today will be the “Red Cherry Shrimp” (RCS).  RCS is a species of freshwater shrimp from Taiwan which are commonly kept in the aquariums. The colouration of the shrimp is depending on breeding which will also determine the “quality” and selling price of the cherry shrimp. However, this "quality" is purely aesthetic, as the size, behavior and other characteristics of cherry is usually equal across varieties. A fully grown shrimp could reach about 4 centimetres long.

Housing
RCS are easy to manage in the home freshwater aquarium because they are able to adapt to a wide range of water conditions, and will thrive in the same conditions as many common aquarium fish. This has made them a good choice for beginners to start with. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH will provide a best results.

Behaviour
RCS is a non-aggressive shrimp thus they will do no harm to other aquarium habitats. They are usually active throughout the day, so usually we will see them grazing on algae, aquarium décor or the side of the tank. Usually a shrimp will shed their exoskeleton, however it is recommend to leave the shed shell in the tank because the shrimp will eat it to recover minerals.
If a female cherry shrimp is pregnant, she will hide in the dark. When they feel danger, there is possibility of the female abandoning the eggs. Therefore, environment with wood or plants allow the females to hide themselves and their babies.

Diet
RCS are primarily algae eaters, but they will just eat any food intended for aquarium use. However, some people will prefer to feed algae discs more. Besides that, blanched vegetables such as zuicchini, baby carrots, peas and spinach can also be supplemental food but should be fed sparingly. This is due to uneaten vegetables will decompose quickly and create the water quality.

Tank Mates
In the natural environment, cherry shrimp are usually prey animals. Thus, when kept in an aquarium they are easily targeted as potential food. Therefore, only small and non-aggressive fish can be kept together with adult cherry shrimp.
Red Cherry Shrimps are small in size which makes them easy prey for larger fish

As a conclusion, Red Cherry Shrimps can be good choice as an aquarium pet because they can be easily managed and can be purchased from aquarium stores and even online fish stores.

However, one thing to take note is you’re required to make your booking before heading to the café because there’s only a limited space in the café. Therefore, make sure you got your booking done or else you’re gonna end up with disappointment.

Today’s introduction will not be complete without introducing the stars of the café which are the Huskies. The breed’s history is relatively unknown but they are among the oldest dog breeds around. Huskies were used as transportation and as family dog for the Chukchi families. An average male husky will grow between 21 and 23.5 inches high while a female husky will reach an average of 20 to 22 inches.

Most of the huskies are pack dogs, therefore owners will need to be the clear leader of the pack to make trainings easier because they will respect you as the leader. Besides that, Huskies are high-energy dog breed which need a lot amount of exercises or else they will end up demolishing your house when they have adequate exercise.

Other than that, Huskies do not bark but they do enjoy howling which may cause a headache. Therefore, this does not make them an ideal pet for apartments. Another adorable characteristics about Huskies is they are friendly and gentle, which make them a lousy watchdogs because they love everybody.
