Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium in Zoo Negara

One of the interesting places in Zoo Negara was the Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium. Here, the aquarium is based on ecological freshwater creatures highlighting the Malaysian River and Wetlands. There are various species of aquatic flora and fauna. There's also endangered species that are being kept here and that includes rare species of fish. 

This is how the entrance looks like.

 A group of fish came to greet us.

Follow by a medium sized Arowana. Arowana's originates from Southeast Asia, where they live in slow moving waters, river and streams. Arowana's have 5 horizontal rows of large distinct scales on their bodies. Different Arowana's have different colour scales, with the most intense and appealing contrasts fetching the highest prices. They can grow up to 30 inches with proper care and can live up to 15 years.

 

 

Here's another freshwater fish species.

 

This is a catfish species. Catfish almost exists in every continent except cold places such as the Antarctica. The Catfish are well known for their prominent barbells. The barbells are tactile organs located close to the mouth, that is similar to cat whiskers. Similarly to cat, the barbells are used to heighten the animals awareness of its surroundings. The barbells are equipped with taste buds and the catfish use those barbells when catching fish in dark and cloudy waters.  

 

This is a Toman species.

 

The Toman species is a native of Asia and Africa. Toman are also called snakehead fish, in East Asia it's common name is Toman. This freshwater fish can be found in ponds, streams and wetlands. They can grow as long as the size of a man's arm depending on their age. Take note that this type of fish is a strong predator type so beware if you want to place it in a tank with other types of fishes.
  

 

The exhibits have been landscaped to fit the natural condition in the wild, this is to show us how these aquatic flora and fauna live their lives in their natural environment.
