Riley the Schnauzer

Meet Riley, a Schnauzer that was rescued from the street. I remember it was ordinary day when I was driving from my house to university, and I saw her wondering at the middle of the road where there is a heavy traffic. After hesitating for a little, I decide to stop beside to bring her to safety. At the beginning, she was escaping from everyone that was trying to stop her due to fear. After 1 hour of chasing, she was finally stopped by one security guard that was on his way to work. In the rescue process, she has bitten 2 person that were trying to help her. In the end, my family decided to keep her until she unites with her owner.
Riley's first day

The name of Schnauzer comes from the German word for “snout” and means colloquially “moustache”, because of the breed’s distinctively bearded snout. Schnauzers are friendly and loving, which makes Riley part of my family easily because she gets along well with children.

Besides that, Riley is also protective and energetic. She will usually alert us if she sees strangers wondering around.  Other than that, Schnauzers are energetic breed thus she will need a 20 minute walk daily.

Furthermore, Riley is also a loyal dog especially towards my grandmother. It seems that Riley has a special bond towards my grandmother because she will just follow where ever my grandmother goes. When she is not at home, Riley will just sit still till my grandmother returns.

Riley has a distinctive beards and long, feathery eyebrows. Therefore, she will require a grooming service every five to eight weeks to keep them tidy. However, it will be recommend to send Schnauzer to professional groomers because it will require some skills to groom a Schnauzer.

Riley has been staying with us for more than a month now, and there is already a bond between us. However, if the owner is still searching for her we do hope that Riley is able to meet her owner again. By that time, my family and I will be providing her with loves and care that she deserves.

Aunty and Uncle The Guinea Pigs

Guinea Pigs

Guinea Pig, or cavies are small mammals originated from the South America. They enjoyed a widespread of popularity as a household pet due to their docile nature and responsiveness to handling and feeding which make them relative ease to manage them. Therefore, today we will introducing “Uncle” and “Aunty” which are two guinea pigs belong to one of our friend.
Uncle - The male guinea pig

Aunty - The female guinea pig

Guinea pigs can grow 20 to 25 cm in length and weight over 700 to 1200g.  A typical guinea pig will live an average of four to five years, but a well maintained guinea pig will live as long as eight years. Guinea pigs rarely bite and are good pets for children who are old enough to handle them with care and treat them with respect. The most common breeds are the Smooth-Coated, Abyssinian and Peruvian.

Housing
A minimum space of eight square is all a guinea pig needs. However, they are very sociable thus most owner will have a pair of guinea pig which will double the amount of space. Besides that, they also have a sensitive paw pads which means they will need a solid flooring instead of the wire-bottomed cage. Other than that, guinea pig prefers a hiding place such as plastic tubes or wooden boxes that are available in most of the pet supply stores.

Commercial guinea pig pellets will fulfil a guinea pig’s diet. There are a variable of guinea pig pellets that could be obtain from any pet supply stores. Most of these pellets are made from plants, seeds and vegetables. It is recommended to feed a guinea pig twice a day. However, owners should be aware that guinea pig cannot produce Vitamin C thus we should ensure our guinea pig are able to gain enough of the Vitamin C by feeding them fruits or vegetables that are high in C.

Overall, guinea pigs will make a great start as a pet for children that are ready to bear the responsibility because they are easy to take care and with a lower cost of taking care.

Visiting Zoo Negara

This was our first time actually visiting a Zoo. We went there together and arrived about 10 am. There were not many people on that day.

This is how the entrance looks like.

This is the map for Zoo Negara

First we went to catch the animal show. The showtimes are 11am and 3pm daily.

The show was just okay, maybe more entertaining for the children. Different types of animals performed, but the most interesting was the sea lion performance. Others were eagles and parrots. The animal show lasted for about an hour.

We then came across some penguins that were in an colder enclosed area. These are Humboldt penguins that came all the way from Czech Republic.

After that, we passed through an area with different species of monkeys.

We even got to see three Hippopotamus that were happily having their meal after their bath.

We passed through the Savannah walk, as the name suggests, it was quiet hot there. It was like the scenery of Africa. It was already noon by then so most of the animals went to shade themselves under the trees.

We were walking towards the Ape Centre next where we spotted this elephant wandering.

A walk up the hill brought us to the Ape Center. The first thing we saw were the Sumatran Orang Utan. When the Orang Utan's saw us approaching, they started using ropes to swing, probably trying to entertain us.

On to the Chimpanzee, sadly we only spotted one Chimpanzee and it looked quiet lonely.

On our way down the hill, we spotted some deerd gathering at the corner. We also saw some fruit bats, which is known as the world's largest bat. There's were Giant Tortoises resting nearby.

Then we spotted this Tapir that was sleeping.

A young sun bear! Commonly found across on Southeast Asia.

There were also some cute Capybara resting underneath a tree. They are actually known as the largest rodent in the world.

We also visited the Bee Museum which is located in the Zoo itself, where we got to see different types of bees. We even got to taste a sample of wild honey.

These cute creatures were seen at the Children's World, just before walking to the exit. Probably because the animals were smaller, thus more appropriate for children, thus it's name.

There were also some Ponies there.

Before leaving, we checked out some souvenir shops along the way, then grab some food and as we were already tired of a whole day walking, we headed home.

Overall, the experience was rather disappointing, mainly the cleanliness of the animals' area as well as the facilities there did not meet our expectations. We really hope the management will look into this to attract more foreign tourists and local visitors
